In a recent issue of the Braemar Banner newsletter there was mention of improving our neighborhood ponds in a “green” way. And as we begin to think “green,” how much do we understand the larger picture? When you look at our curbsides on trash day you’ll see incredible amounts of stuff, some items still very usable, headed to the landfill. Where does “stuff” come from and where does it go (and why isn’t it being recycled as opposed to trashed)?
At www.storyofstuff.com you’ll see a clever, fast paced 20 minute video looking at our materials economy system. (Huh??) It talks about production and consumption, how that affects our larger environment and more importantly how it affects all of us. This video is very appropriate for school-aged children and especially adults since we are the ones faced with making the decisions. Visit the site and learn what you could do to make our world more sustainable and even how to save some money! Respect the interdependent web of existence. You have an impact on the environment and on your children’s future world. Make it a positive one.
